Having worked in the oil and gas sector with companies like CNRL & Cenovus, Jade rose from a seismic exploration labourer to the drill-push supervisor of a 32-man crew, finding a passion in management. But seeking new challenges, he enrolled in the Instrumentation Engineering Technology program at Red Deer College. Highlights of his education include participating in NOVA Chemicals’ first summer student internship program, competing in the 2019 ISA SAIT Student Games, sitting on 3 school advisory councils, and graduating with great distinction.
Upon graduation, he enrolled at the University of Alberta in the Computer Engineering program to gain further knowledge of the electronics found in our increasingly digital world, studying the design of both hardware and software systems. He’s gained experience with programming languages such as C & C++, Python, and Java while developing different backend systems, and an Android application. He’s worked with different database systems such as MySQL, NoSQL, and SQLite for data storage and management. Gained hands-on experience with various microcontrollers, including the Arduino, the Zybo (w/ FreeRTOS), and the STM-32 ARM Nucleo for experience with RISC assembly language, strengthening his interest in embedded systems.
In his employment, he’s worked with the IEC 61131-3 standard to transition hydraulic equipment to a digital control framework with PLC technologies, commissioned a DeltaV DCS controlled heat exchanger system, and applied industrial engineering principles such as Lean manufacturing, 5S, and Kanban, discovering a love of continuous improvement.
Having completed his degree at the University of Alberta, he intends to obtain practical experience as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the goal of becoming a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) before pursuing an MBA.
Overall, his combination of skills, qualities, and experience make Jade an ideal candidate for roles that require a high degree of organization, attention to detail, safety, and effective communication.
